Glimmers of spring

Hoping for some more days like this!

Feb 18 022

We’ve had a few sunny days, but it’s not long after the snow and the changeable weather often brings a chilly wind. Its tempting not to venture far from your hopefully warm and cosy home.

To boost well being its always good to get out and about.

Reasons to get outside include:-

As a dog owner or befriender you can wrap up warmly and get out there, as they insist on this several times a day!!

Explore with children the parks, woodlands or public footpaths and observe the bursting buds of bushes, trees and plants or of new animal life. Help them to learn about the wonders of our nature and countryside.

The garden is always beckoning at this time of year so small jobs to clear, tidy and prepare for the bursting forth of plants and vegetables, during any clear spells, helps to boost positive feelings. Plan the garden of the summer!

With an improving picture, planning to meet friends and family for gatherings out and about in new places or old haunts. Helps with reconnecting after the winter hibernation.

Lighter nights, with the clocks going forward this weekend, ensures more daylight and opportunities to attend all kinds of social events. Consider taking up an activity in the evening of these lighter nights. Get out on your bike, join a club or find an exercise buddy? Keeping active to improve your health.

Community events are planned in parks, villages, halls and the countryside which engage people with all kinds of skills and entertainment. This brings a sense of hope and interest. Opportunities to connect in many different ways, socialise and have fun are more abundant.

Volunteering time and skills to benefit your local community, gives the volunteer a sense of  well being too. Skills may involve working in buildings to offer services for individuals or organisations, connecting with others and may involve activities outdoors too. A great benefit of this work for the individual is the sense of contribution and involvement locally, which can boost powerful positive feelings.

So it all looks good!

Certainly it is an improving picture. All activity and connecting with nature is good for our body and minds, so it is great to be able to plan more of both of these into the coming weeks.

What about those niggling health and well being issues, which need some small shifts for you to be able to engage in these opportunities?

Motivation to:-

get more active

eat more healthily

reduce negative thoughts

feel confident talking to new people

reduce addictive habits

incorporate better ways of living your life

Need support to start the changes? A Hypnotherapist can start you on your journey…

Wherever you are, I hope you can get planning and enjoy some sunny, warmer moments in the coming weeks.

Snow days impact!

March 18 043

Feeling held back and caught up by the snow?

Difficult when not everyone is able to get out and about, services are closed and you feel trapped indoors.

None of the usual hustle and bustle and maybe the lack of social contact is a big change.

My husband is stranded working away and he’s been away all week, so that’s not great.

Try to avoid it getting you down.

It is away from our usual routines and activities but it is luckily short lived.

Hopefully you’re cupboards are well stocked and you are warm. If this is a challenge gather warm clothes, blankets and move around where you can. Call on contacts to share resources where needed.

If you are able, get out even for short periods in the snow

it is beautiful out there!

but ensure you are wrapped up in layers, with the necessary boots, gloves, hat and scarf.

Embrace the beauty of the whiteness while it lasts…

Keeping well this winter!

It is inevitable that there are infections and viruses around at this time of year.

If you eat healthily, exercise regularly, manage your stress levels and ensure good sleep habits, then you can reduce your risk of being unwell.

Quite a big ask at this busy time of the year when we often over indulge on alcohol, food, and late nights. Also we tend to extend ourselves to more social gatherings than we can handle. Mix this up with gathering in overly warm premises, close together, more frequently, where people carry illness and we have a wonderful environment for bugs to spread.

So what can I do?

  • eat healthily where possible, particularly plenty of vegetables and fruit to boost your intake of vitamins and minerals, particularly vitamin C
  • boost your immune system with a diet rich in garlic and onions, which have been shown to have anti viral properties
  • prepare well in advance for the extra organising of Xmas, with tasks completed in earlier weeks, and liaise with other family and friends who are sharing this with you to spread the load
  • this will reduce your stress levels and help spread the financial load
  • take up the offer of a flu jab if it is available to you – this protects not only yourself but young children, older people and any vulnerable adults
  • plan to have rest periods in amongst social activities, allowing you to pace yourself
  • ensure some early bedtimes to enable your body to rejuvenate itself and manage the increased workload

None of this is rocket science but we often forget these simple steps.

If in doubt one of the most protective factors for reducing your risk of illness is good hand washing.

If you don’t avoid the round of bugs, I didn’t, particularly if you are in contact with young children. Then resting, staying warm and drinking plenty of clear fluids along with regular paracetamol should make you comfortable and promote a speedy recovery. This again may involve support from friends and family.

Good luck at this busy time of year and keep positive!

Health & happiness

Being healthy is a combination of physical well being, emotional resilience and psychological well being – no mean feat at any age!

We all have periods of life where any one of these aspects of feeling healthy can be challenged. Periods of change and upheaval can create competing priorities and we can loose sight of what we need as an individual to feel well. This wellness can then affect our feelings of happiness.

Good health is a balancing act and requires us to prioritise ourselves!!

Take time today, to focus on what being healthy means to you and start to make it happen.

This may be around:-

dietary patterns

habits control

time to exercise

mood influencers

connecting with others

work patterns

feeling accomplished

contributing to society

hobbies/interests

time for ourselves

developing gratitude

Often many of these are inter related and may need exploring to unpick what needs to and can change.

Make yourself a priority today!

One small change…

We all have habits we may wish to change…

or have an issue which is challenging our life and threatening us from feeling our best!

To function in the best way we can and get the most out of our life we all need to constantly review…

There is always room for improvement!!

However this can be tricky and takes time and effort.

Here are simple steps which enable change to occur:-

hyp 001

Fitter with hypnosis – especially weight loss.

Everyone knows what they need to do to have a healthy lifestyle!?

Finding the willpower, determination and the ongoing consistency to sustain these habits is more tricky!

We all struggle with:-

  • Eating too much at each meal or snacks

  • Finding the motivation to exercise

  • Eating healthily, but constantly craving sweets

xmas-15-133

People are turning to hypnosis…

so how does it work?

Hypnosis is not mind control like you imagine from tv shows or stage performers. It is more like a guided meditation.

Firstly you enter a relaxed state which helps you to connect with your subconscious, and suggestions can be made, which promote changes in your behaviour. Your motivation can be enhanced by repeating positive affirmations.

These steps can be made through self hypnosis but take some knowledge and practice. A  Hypnotherapists skill guides you through these steps, but essentially they have also explored with you beforehand your motivations and challenges.

This enables you to access the resources of your mind in a way unique to you!

Choosing a Hypnotherapist whom you connect with and trust is important. Recommendations are always worth exploring.

If you can begin to make changes which improve your well being this can affect many parts of your life over time…

Investing some time on “you” may seem costly now but it is not only for today, to improve your habits, but for your future.

A new start?

Thinking of making some changes in 2017?

Weight loss

Managing negative feelings, or anxiety if overwhelming

Food addiction

Inactivity

Insomnia

Often we need more insight and tools to make small changes, which are sustainable. This can then make a big difference over the long term.

Thought of hypnotherapy as supporting you to make that change?

If you find a therapist you can connect with, then the experience can be not unpleasant!

Look to your future and make the changes from today.

Exercise for wellbeing

th

Just returned from an exercise class on a wet winters am. Not what I wanted to do on this dark morning but what my mind and body needed me to to!

Feeling brighter than before I went out….

Exercise is great for:-

  • getting the heart beating faster and stronger, maintaining and building essential muscles
  • increasing the circulation:-

by feeding the extremities, sending oxgen and nutrients to the cells of the limbs, fingers and toes

to the internal organs and maintianing the metabolism and cell processes

giving a boost to brain functionning, enhancing concentration and thinking skills

  • stretching the muscles

maintaining function and range of movement in limbs and core muscles

building strength and functionality

  • improving balance
  • an increased a sense of wellbeing by giving your body the activity it needs to practice skills and maintain necessary processes
  • mood enhancement by doing activity of all types, but especially exercise,  is increasingly being recognised as a big benefit.

If you don’t use parts of your body they will not function well!

We need the blood to be flowing, the muscles to be worked out and the brain stimulated for us to sustain a feeling of vitality. This promotes a good sense of well-being.

How can we expect our bodies to do what they were built for if we do not use them properly?

To get into better habits, to enable a sense of well-being to be the normal feeling, we need to develop more active ways of living.

How do I incorporate this into my busy working life?

You make ‘yourself’ a priority and look at how your habits are impacting on your well-being.

It could be incorporating more exercise, or it may be aspects of our diet which need looking at, or parts of our lives we forget to manage like stress levels or sleep. We can all get carried away in the business of everyday life.

Over time all these areas can have an impact on how you feel and function.

Make changes today!

To make changes, work with a Hypnotherapist, who can explore with you to identify what you most need to work on. An action plan supported by hypnotherapy, to access your inner resources, will make changes effective.

By making the time and space to prioritise yourself you are giving yourself and your family the biggest gift.

You are worth it!
